60 Habits of Terrible Drivers, from Annoying to Downright Dangerous

Picture the perfect afternoon commute. The roads are clear, everyone’s going the speed limit, and everyone is courteous. You make it home in record time. The easy-listening station is playing “Life is a Highway.” Your tree-lined street is blooming with apple blossoms, and little baby birds are chirping in their nests.

Now imagine the highways taken over by obnoxious drivers. Feel your blood pressure rise by double digits almost instantly, your knuckles turning white as you clench the steering wheel for dear life. Expletives fly from your mouth almost as often as clueless drivers cut you off one after the other. Everywhere you look, drivers are stuffing their faces with fries as they update their facebook profiles. “Am I the only sane person with a driver’s license?” you think to yourself.

Which do you think is closer to reality?

Let’s face it, it’s much closer to the latter. Clueless, distracted, and downright rude drivers are terrorizing America’s highways from sea to shining sea.

Take this journey with us through the most annoying and downright dangerous drivers. Just be sure to take a minute to calm down after you read this list if you plan on getting behind the wheel anytime soon.

Annoying Driving Habits #annoyingdrivers #baddrivinghabits #givemeabreakyoulunatic

These habits of bad drivers are more annoying than hazardous (although many can lead to some pretty dangerous situations).

  1. Half-way blocking a right lane that another driver would like to make a “right turn on red” (legally) with, but they can’t get around your vehicle, so they have to wait for the light to turn green and your majesty to move forward
  2. When a car intentionally moves into the right lane at a red light when they’re going straight, again preventing all the cars behind them from turning right.
  3. When you’re attempting to pull out of a parking lot or gas station, and the cars that are backed up on the road can’t be bothered to give you a little room to enter traffic.
  4. Passing on the right. Sure, sometimes it’s unavoidable, but some drivers seem to prefer passing on the right at high speeds. Which is illegal, by the way.
  5. Failing to maintain a consistent speed on the freeway.
  6. Bass that blasts the eardrums of everyone within a quarter mile radius (usually protruding from a hoopty that is worth less than the stereo system that’s installed in it)
  7. When a driver is slowly and leisurely looking for a parking spot, during rush hour on a busy road.
  8. Parking your car straddling two spots. I’m sure your highness deserves two spots, we’re all sorry for even thinking otherwise.
  9. Slowing down almost to a dead stop to turn (not at a light or stop sign) when there is a turning lane next to the driving lane to do that in.
  10. Eating in the car – we can see you dipping those fries, and it’s not making the drivers around you feel particularly safe
  11. Camping out in the carpool lane at 10 mph below the speed limit. This isn’t your own personal VIP lane
  12. Double parking or parking in an illegal area
  13. Driving as if the turn signal was never invented
  14. Assuming because they’re in a hurry, everyone else should be as well
  15. Refusing to drive with the flow of traffic, even if it means driving a little above the speed limit
  16. Giving just a split second turn signal notice
  17. Pulling over somewhere stupid when a cop pulls you over – you can pull over into a parking lot or off the busy road, they won’t get mad at you for that
  18. Slowing down to stare at accidents causing even more traffic than necessary
  19. Not slowing down for speed bumps or dips (although let’s admit this is pretty hilarious to watch)
  20. Not understanding the rules of a 4-way stop. It’s really not that complicated, just go when it’s your turn (or when I’m waving for you to go ahead)
  21. Failing to extend a courtesy wave when another driver politely waits for you to pull ahead of them when an entrance is blocked, you’re trying to enter traffic, switching lanes, etc. It’s common decency, people
  22. Getting stuck behind a bus with your turn signal on,  trying to switch lanes, and other drivers not being courteous enough to let you in while they whiz by
  23. Excessive revving by motorcyclists when stopped at a light next to you
  24. Semi trucks trying to pass each other and blocking all lanes across the road in the process
  25. Speeding up when someone is trying to pass you. Why is everything a race to you people!
  26. Commercial vehicles carrying rocks, sand or dirt that is not properly secured, causing the material to bust up your car like a pellet gun if you’re anywhere near them
  27. Coming up to a light and not being in the turn lane you want to be in, so you turn on your blinker and try to get over . . . .the other drivers take note and don’t care, forcing you to drive another mile up the road to make the turn you need to make

Downright Dangerous Habits People Still Think They Can Get Away With in 2016 #baddrivers #dangerousdrivers #idiotsunleashedonthehighway

Finally, there’s that special breed of driver whose habits endanger everyone around them:

  1. Driving drunk or under the influence of drugs. Just stop; you’re a hazard to everyone on the road, and should have your license taken away.
  1. Drivers who think it’s OK to drive when they take painkillers or other “mind-altering” prescription meds.
  2. Drivers who realize at the last second that they’re about to miss their exit, and then dart across multiple lanes of traffic, terrorizing the other cars on the road.
  3. Texting while driving. We know by now how dangerous this is, so why does it seem like every other car on the freeway is looking down at their phone?
  4. Updating facebook profile while driving, texting and driving’s even-more-stupidly-reckless cousin.
  5. Applying make-up, with the aid of the sun visor mirror, while barrelling down the freeway at 75 mph.
  6. Road rage. Do you really need to escalate the situation to scary levels when everyone’s just trying to get home safely from work?
  7. Tailgating. I’m already driving at or above the speed limit. Why do you have to drive two feet away from my back bumper?
  8. Following closely behind a truck, or “drafting.” You might be shaving off a few miles-per-gallon, but you’re setting yourself up for a car crash.
  9. Gunning it at a yellow light
  10. Slamming on your brakes at a yellow light
  11. Running a red light
  12. Merging onto the freeway without accelerating fast enough, forcing everyone behind them to merge at 20-30 mph below the speed limit. This is what causes unnecessary congestion, people.
  13. Drivers who act territorial and refuse to let you into their lane, turn signal be damned.
  14. Not checking your blind spot. Yes, Virginia, there is a blind spot, and I’m driving in it when you merge halfway into my lane and I have to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting you.
  15. Driving on bald tires in a snowstorm. This is the definition of an accident waiting to happen
  16. Speeding in poor weather conditions – “You’re in a Geo Metro, you shouldn’t be going 90 mph in a blizzard”
  17. Drivers playing dangerous games with unsecured items in the back of their truck
  18. Looking back at passengers in back seat and being distracted. Actually, all distracted driving is hazardous
  19. Cutting people off. Why does this seem to happen every day?
  20. Driving without safety equipment or car seats for babies and children, or driving with so many passengers that it’s obvious nobody’s properly restrained
  21. Slamming on your brakes for no reason. Why is this even happening?  Don’t do it or do something that causes someone around you to do it.
  22. Slamming on brakes on slick roads…pretty sure they went over that in driver’s ed
  23. Not turning your headlights on when it’s dark/dusk. We just pray you get pulled over for this
  24. Not going back to pick up things that fly out of or fall off or your car (that should have been properly tied down in the first place)
  25. Motorcycles weaving around cars in condensed traffic
  26. Illegal U-turns. If it seems a little sketchy, you probably should find a safer place to turn around
  27. Not understanding the difference between a solid line and a dashed line when driving or passing
  28. Driving too fast through parking lots. We’d all like to make it into the store without being threatened with dismemberment
  29. “Boxing” other drivers in and not caring about potential for catastrophe you’re causing
  30. Semi trucks way over in the furthest left passing when they were intended to use the slow lane.
  31. People who don’t at least call 911 when they see an accident with no emergency aid arriving at the scene yet because they assume someone else probably called, too. What if everyone driving by assumed the same thing?
  32. Cab drivers. No explanation needed.
